Percy Menzies response to article on MedicalExpress.com: Fentanyl vaccine heads for clinical trials, with goal of saving lives (medicalxpress.com)
It is sad and misleading for stories like these to get so much exposure. Vaccines have been developed and are highly effective against diseases and infections caused by pathogens because people don’t want to be infected.
It is very different when it comes to conditions caused by substances and behaviors. There are dozens of substances ranging from food to drugs to alcohol. People want the freedom to experiment and use these substances, and most can do so responsibly. Similarly, behaviors ranging from gambling to sex cannot be ‘vaccinated’ away.
Every time we are impacted by a socially contagious problem, we are promised vaccines, and tens of millions of dollars are wasted. We were promised vaccines against heroin, cocaine, nicotine, and the list goes on.
We have a broad-spectrum ‘vaccine’ that protects the brain from the effects of every known opioid. The medication is called naltrexone. Naltrexone can be taken either as a daily pill or a monthly injection. Naltrexone should have been hailed as a watershed event in the battle against the opioid epidemic. Tens of thousands of people could be protected by ingesting naltrexone. Yet, this 40-year-old medication remains virtually unused on the grounds of poor compliance. Naltrexone is a stand-alone medication requiring no adjuvants and is very inexpensive at $1-2 per pill.
Let us work on mass inoculation of the population by widespread distribution of naltrexone tablets and educating people on the benefits of this amazing prophylactic medication. We have a very effective and inexpensive ‘vaccine’ against every known opioid. Let’s use it.
